Cons: Latest issue: can't pause videos through specific apps like Hulu or Netflix, instead (pressing pause does nothing), I have to stop casting with the Home app to pause or stop videos. Turning Guest mode off still allows anyone on the network with an Android device to control the Chromecast (everyone that has access to my wifi shouldn't automatically have access to control my device). It would be nice to eventually be able to connect USB storage devices directly up to the Chromecast. Pros: the ability to personalize the backdrop (temp outside, news, pictures time, etc), the size of the device, the amount of apps that support the device, and not needing an additional remote for the TV.

I can't live without this now. I love doing chores around my home and bring able to listen to podcasts without missing a word while I move from room to room. I have Chromecast Audios set up in every room of my home. I also have 1 Home Assistant. My major complaint is that the shopping list is now integrated into the Home app. Previously the Google Assistant would add it to a Keep list. This was much easier to share with my SO. She doesn't even see a shopping list in her Home App! Furthermore, the dang list simply opens a web page! That's not intuitive. What gives Google?!?

Horribly unreliable. Google Play Movies, youtube and Netflix can barely stay connected to the chromecast for 1 whole minute. Trying to pause anything is virtually impossible. Even when the apps 'think' they are still connected there is absolutly no response from the chromecast, often having to unplug the chrome cast to fix the incessant brain freezes. This new 'home' app and the new chromecast have brought ABSOLUTLY no more reliability. To describe the chromecast in one word... INFURIATING is the only one that fits

Update: Netflix seems to be much improved. At least it is more reliable now. On the other hand, YouTube now always stutters the first few seconds when casting. Fine on the phone. Original: Now casting is not possible anymore except from YouTube. Sorry Google, your software is really getting crappy in the recent past. If you are supporting them at all.

In reply to google, no, I do not have ANYTHING. It completely disconnects as if I turned off wifi. This latest update now disconnects from the TV when ut happens, pausing my show or YouTube video. It's less frequent, but still exists. The connection simply just drops randomly. Quite annoying, but I do see improvement.

I can't even use it now! Updated my WiFi to a much faster one, diagnostics say very strong connection. Now my Chromecast won't run properly and I get a constant message that my WiFi is too slow or its not optimised when trying to cast screen (On a Samsung tablet, which worked fine might I add on my old seriously slow wifi) . It's also always out of sync for Netflix 99% of the time. At the moment it was a waste of money and it's soo frustrating.

This app is fantastic, when it decides to work. Every 2 days it gets stuck and it thinks it's casting to the Chromecast, when it's not, and it refuses to disconnect. Tried clearing app data, force stopping, uninstalling and reinstalling, but to no avail. Great job Google, fantastically designed app you got here...

If you are having disconnect issues when using a s7 uninstall Samsung connect updates and disable auto update. Latest version of Home has issues scrolling left and right. I need to use my entire thumb. Up and down seem fine.

Unfortunately the Hdmi CEC does not work anymore. What's up with that? Yes, I have done all of the above. as well as casting from different devices. All apps no longer have the ability to pause or play with remote. This changed with the recent update. FIRMWARE: 1.24.88007

We should be able to force quality of videos on chrome cast. It is absolutely nonsense to no allow users to choose the quality. I have very fast internet connection and cab easily watch 1080p videos, but chrome cast dropa the quality just because many ISP know by dropping speed couple of times forces devices like chrome cast to switch lower quality, Telstra in Australia does it and it's funny because it is an obvious rip off.

Love it for playing music and for getting information when I can't pick up my phone, but it's a horrible shopping list! Keep is the much better app for a shopping list. The Home stopped sending my items to a Keep list and started making me use a Home shopping list. It's TERRIBLE. You can't organize items by category, access it quickly, or pull it up where the wifi or data signals are weak, which is in half the stores I frequent.

My Google Home and the Google Assistant on my Pixel XL does not work with my G Suite account. It renders all of the "what's my next appointment" or other calendar related requests useless. It cannot read my calendar or email. Looks like it's time to stop paying $50/year for the G Suite account and migrate to a free Gmail account to enjoy the full Google experience.

Used to be able to play almost any video on the web. Now only works with apps or websites that strictly set up support for chromecast. Would no longer recommend one to a friend.

Google Home pushes me content for apps I've disabled (e.g. YouTube) and stuff I don't want my kids seeing (e.g. from 4oD). BTW the 'Google Home' name shouldn't really be noted as 'what's new' anymore.

All the negative reviews, most are because it doesn't do something it's not made to do. If you don't have a WiFi network, then it won't work! I connected this device, set it up and have never touched it since. I cast mostly from an older android that is not even activated on a cell carrier. Works great with my Note 3 and ANY Windows computer using Chrome Browser, including my Surface and iPad. Updates just keep adding features. If it don't work, get someone to help you set it up. Not Plug-n-Play.

Chrome cast used to be perfect, now this update has messed up my YouTube streaming. Every video is started with jumping and video breaking up. Uninstalling all apps and updates then reinstalling didn't fix either!

This app is useless since they removed the ability to change the progress. Past versions you could use a scroll bar to change the progress from the notification. Bar or the app. Now you can only pause play stop. So now you are basically sol if you need to adjust the progress because anything you cast from does not update the progress either.

I like this app, it has potential. But, this thing keeps freezing, skipping, and the most annoying part, the sound stops during play time. I have to keep rebooting, disconnecting, it's soo annoying. Also, it's a hugh turn off being I use it a lot to screen movies. I've tried every resolution listened. Please fixxxxx

Good app that has been getting better. One major need though is a search/filter option for assistant apps. It's great that so many apps have been added, but man finding one in the list takes forever to scroll through them all to find the one you want.

Works ok with specific apps like YouTube etc. But if I try to just cast my phone's screen it always fails. It just says "connecting" and then "casting to Chromecast has stopped"

Need 1st word of my choice and 2nd will be Google, how about that ? Group Sound control ? Bass control ? Group Cast Chromecast TV and Home or audio ? Ok need my answer. I like Shortcut future. One more problem I have two Google home one account and I set timer on 1st one and later I asked 2nd Google home how much timer I left ? 2nd Google home doesn't know about my timer, this need to fix.

It has ruined casting onto my tv. The pin is unnecessary and stops me from working the app even after I've already been using it. The connection is hit or miss and requires turning the app on and off and other unnecessary things. It also doesn't work with my tablet. That was the whole reason I got the Chromecast! What a rip off!
