Pro tips:
• Gesture cursor control: Slide your finger across the space bar to move the cursor
• Gesture delete: Slide left from the delete key to quickly delete multiple words
• Make the number row always available (enable in Settings → Preferences → Number Row)
• Symbols hints: Show quick hints on your keys to access symbols with a long press (enable in Settings → Preferences → Long press for symbols)
• One handed mode: On large screen phones, pin keyboard to the left or the right of the screen
• Themes: Choose your own theme, with or without key borders

Ratings and reviews

Latest update has been catastrophic on Pixel 7. Keyboard gets "stuck" on screen so you lose the bottom half of your screen, or doesn't come up automatically when tapping a text field for input. Sometimes force closing the app you were using the keyboard in helps, but other times you need to reboot your phone to get things working again. I'm having to reboot my phone 3-4 times a week because of this keyboard.

Keyboard is okay. Pros: customizable dictionary. Cons: swipe typing is awful and has essentially zero predictive power. It struggles to detect words like "you" or "I'm" whose letters are all physically close by on the keyboard. It works better if the letters in the word are physically far apart. Samsung and Swifkey's swipes are MUCH better. I'd also love to be able to customize the layout of the symbols. That is an option in other keyboards.

I want to say I love Google products but now and then, they do stupid things. Gboard is certainly one of the best keyboards out there. Up until about this year, when somebody in the head office decided, "Hey, we're putting AI everywhere. Let's remove the functional dictionary, spell check, grammar check, and autocorrect, and put in AI instead, so that it can guess what it is you're trying to say completely wrong." In other words, Gboard is now useless. ai changes sentences to jibberish.
