You really need to fix this! as it is one of the main feature for any android TV. It is always disconnecting, image stucking and freezing. With the latest version installed on my Sony Bravia 2016 TV, I even couldn't get it to show on my desktop when I tried to cast, is not recognized anymore. I had to uninstall the update then it shows, but still I had the problem of disconnecting and stucking or low quality between time to time.
I have to restart my Sony KD-55X8505C every few days, as Cast suddenly doesn't start when I choose it from the cast icon in any Google Cast supported app on my phone. A restart solves the issue every single tie. I either restart from the Settings / About menu, or by long press on the power button on the remote.
This app is horribly flawed. Not even Netflix works with it, although other apps work fine, and some not at all. It's the only reason I switched from Android to official Android TV but it doesn't work nearly as well as a Chromecast.
Flaky as. Will often disconnect, drop the connection, not show up on the network, or do unexpected things e.g. trying to cast Netflix will open the Netflix app instead of actually playing the thing you want. So buggy!!
Using Google Cast Receiver on a Sony Android TV. I expected this to work exactly like Chromecast, but surprisingly it's worse. Does not have feature parity with an actual Chromecast. Netflix and HBO Now do not work at all with this; have to use the Android TV apps only. YouTube and Twitch do work exactly as expected. Don't understand why some apps treat this differently from Chromecast. No ability to customize the "daydream" screen unlike Chromecast. This wild inconsistency between what should be near identical Google casting receivers is inexcusable.
Version 1.21.75534 (28th Oct 2016) updated on my Philips 49PUS7170 Android TV with software version QV15E.0.5.38.117 Casting Youtube videos had finally been fixed (garbled 2nd video due to 4k), after not working for over half a year and since purchase, then this update comes out and randomly gets stuck "loading...". This is a different issue, but effectively all I can do is try to cast a video, then attempt another when it gets stuck loading, then if I disconnect 2 times, I have to reboot the tv, since any source is now blank. I've had circa 2 months (out of 10) of working casting, I can once again no longer trust it enough to use reliably. It would be great to have a fix, and while you're at it, please work with Philips to bring 4k youtube videos to this year's 4k Android TVs and update the Youtube for Android TV app too, it's ancient compared to standard app.
