Ratings and reviews

I'm not sure what has changed, but both of these last two updates have warranted Maps unusable. Whenever I open the app, it just gives me the first screen with the logo and nothing happens. I wait, wait, and wait some more. Close the app, restart. Clear cache. Clear data. Restart phone. Nothing changes! Just the same loading screen of no progress.

I've been having issues lately with the app not providing verbal directions. It's a minor inconvenience when you are a passenger. It's COMPLETELY unacceptable when you are alone in the car and driving. C'mon Google, you're MUCH better than this! Update: device volume is on, app voice is on and app volume is up, speakers are set, and I'm not hearing any chimes. I get the first direction, maybe 2, then nothing at all.

Google maps used to seem like magic with how I could find anything. Now the dark patterns are everywhere, and every corner of the app is trying to grab your attention simultaneously. It is maddening to try and use; double tapping doesn't zoom on photos? Instagram links are more important than the menu at a restaurant? Every single restaurant has shaky stupid videos as one of the image examples? A disaster of usability and frustration. I hate what they have done to this app.
