It's really good to have a thermal sensor on my phone and it's as good as most standalone ones as long as you go to the trouble to find out the limitations. But I think the attempts at making the interface easier and more intuitive are doing the opposite. When I want to see how hot my mouth or forehead is (to see if I've got flu, covid, etc) I don't need a complicated vibrating thingummy as I'm quite happy to just tap a button on screen. So I use the vegetable mode to check my temperature?!?

Three stars because it seems to work, but the interface is not good. It'd be considerably better if it integrated the camera to help you figure out where you're pointing the thermometer and whether you're close enough to the target. With the Tensor CPU, it'd even be possible for the camera to detect objects and automatically set/suggest material types for them.

It works reasonably well. The temperature sensor is based on infrared, which means that the temperature reading is heavily dependent on the material's emissivity. I was hoping there would be a mode that allows you to explicitely set the emissivity correction factor, but it looks like the "Select a material" dialog is as good as it gets. It's still nice to have this in my pocket nonetheless.
